Synod 2022 Begins!
Many of us have been eagerly praying and working towards Synod 2022 as we recognize the moment our denomination is in and how this could be a watershed Synod. On May 25, this Synod began with an opening Zoom plenary session. So starting with this gathering and as future plenary sessions meet in June, you can expect regular updates from the Abide Project team bringing you our perspective on the biggest news and decisions out of Synod 2022.
In this opening video, Reverends Lloyd Hemstreet (Coopersville CRC) and Tyler Wagenmaker (Beaverdam CRC) share their brief thoughts on the first gathering of Synod 2022. They discuss: The opening Worship and call for Christian Unity. The election (and one re-election) of officers. Possible early hints at the will of Synod, as we think about how some of those votes played out. And the closing of the program committee's work from Synod 2019 (with prayers that no committee ever has to do what they have accomplished and endured through the season of Covid cancellations).
